Sravanthi suffers from chronic kidney disease (CKDnT)(chronic kidney disease of non traditional causes). Her life, and the lives of her parents, revolves around daily travel to a dialysis clinic in a city three hours away. Her husband abandoned her and their child when he found out she had CKDnT.
These photographs are part of a project about the global chronic kidney disease epidemic (CKDnT). CKDnT is a devastating disease that is appearing in agricultural laborers around the world. Thousands are dying every year as aresult of kidney failure brought on by CKDnT. To be clear: it is not caused by high blood pressure, diabetes or obesity,which are the usual causes of kidney disease. I travelled to India in January 2016 with @LaIslaFoundation to document the plight of workers who suffer from CKDnT as well as their families and the communities that have been stricken with this epidemic.
