Here, a female panda shows signs she is ready to mate by somersaulting, making calls and exhibiting restless behavior at Bifengxia Giant Panda base in Ya'an City, China. Did you know that the female panda has only one estrous cycle a year, in the spring and she's only fertile for 24 to 36 hours? It is believed there are a little more than 1,800 pandas in the wild and about 325 in captivity. The center is a part of the China Conservation & Research Center for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP), Wolong Nature Center, under the Department of Forestry.
