Photo @Keith Ladzinski / Once a year Ouray Colorado hosts an international Ice Fest at their unique Ice Park. It's an unexpected setting for those that have never visited. Thousands of people fill the box canyon to take climbing clinics or spectate from various bridges and platforms to watch some of the best ice climbers in the world compete. The ice in the canyon is man made, sprayed down calculatedly from water lines above at select times of night, freezing and forming into beautiful curtains of sapphire blue ice. This park is a huge economic stimulus for the resort free mountain town, bringing in millions annually and offering a unique opportunity for an alternative winter experience.
