Photo by @mattiasklumofficial Mountain gorillas do many amazing and intelligent things. I saw, for example, a female take care of a male who had a wound on his back. She chewed a plant, from the ginger family, into a green goo that she applied on the wound. A young gorilla is born completely helpless. Just like us. During its initial three months it clings to its mother around the clock while she caresses, pats, kisses and feeds its baby once an hour. After four months, the young one can sit on its own. That is about the same age as human babies. Soon, the little gorilla can stand up if it gets a helping hand and then crawl. The older babies spend a lot of time playing – they wrestle, climb trees and run hand in hand through the forest. Gorillas laugh when they get tickled and cry when they grieve, but they do so using sounds instead of tears.
