the #NakedMoleRat, one of the most interesting animals that I have ever had the opportunity to meet. They have the smallest optic nerve of any mammal, meaning that they are blind. They live underground, they burrow and live in Colonies. #Darwin predicted that a rodent that had hive like behavior would and should exist. They also have their teeth on the outside of their lips...this is a 26 year old Queen, the longest living NMR ever found.
In a 2009 study researches reported that the NMR, which is more closely related to the porcupine then the rat, has a simple molecular that keeps the homely rodent from getting cancer. They are one of only two 'eusocial' mammals ever found. @thephotosociety @Robert Clark @instituteartist
