"Tank Spikes" that were part of #Cold War defenses that surrounded the #plutonium finishing plant (in background) at the plutonium production facility at Hanford, Washington USA. This was the site of the #Manhattan Project that produced plutonium for the first #nuclear bomb. The plutonium production process left vast amounts of solid and liquid #hazardous waste, much of that radioactive. The site is an EPA Superfund site. 11,000 people are employed in the remediation of the site. I'm here this week photographing for #National Geographic story. @FritzPhotos #ThePhotoSociety
