Old Faithful, Yellowstone NP, WY. Photo by @peteressick. Photographing a geyser on wet plate is challenging. As the name implies, the plate has to be wet at the time of exposure. This translates into about a 5-6 minute window between when you finish and load the plate in the camera holder and develop it. It also takes about 5 minutes to prepare the plate. In this case I got up early and Old Faithful went off at exactly 6:30am.!That meant the next time would be 7:58am plus or minus 10 minutes. I gambled that it would be right on time. I poured the plate at 7:50 in a portable dark box in my rented van in the Old Faithful Inn parking lot. At 7:55 I ran up to my waiting camera and saw the geyser starting to come to life. It went off about a minute later and I ran back to the van and processed the plate.
