For 65 years, the song “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” has been a holiday staple. Brenda Lee recorded it at 13 years old and, now 78, remains a queen of Christmas.

For the past four years, “Rockin’” has peaked at No. 2, but in honor of its 65th anniversary, Lee’s label is giving the song an extra push to try to overtake Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” including a new music video that features Lee lip-syncing to the tune she recorded as a teenager. There is even a TikTok account. Johnny Marks — who penned Christmas classics including “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Holly Jolly Christmas” — wrote the song with Lee, who was then a child prodigy, in mind. When “Rockin’” arrived in 1958, it failed to make waves, but the song soared when re-released two years later.
