Whether I am of a very fine nature or not, I couldn’t say, but it does make me deeply happy when a friend’s well-earned success reaches new peaks. It was actually for personal reasons, or even family reasons – because our dearest friends are like siblings, like family, and that is the case here – that I went to Seville to celebrate a good friend of mine, to sing for her, and to be with her and share in her joy at a special moment of her life. But when your friend is called Laura Pausini, and the world is clamouring to celebrate her, it is only right to join the chorus and speak publicly about the story and reasons behind a bond that has lasted almost a lifetime. Therefore, it is with great admiration, affection, and happiness that I celebrate her receiving the prestigious title of “Person of the Year” 2023 bestowed upon her by the Latin Recording Academy. I saw Laura emerge as an artist and I have always respected her as a performer and as a person since the beginning. It is thanks to her talent and heart that she has blossomed into what she is today: a formidable international superstar.
