At The King’s first State Opening of Parliament as Sovereign earlier today, Their Majesties travelled to Buckingham Palace in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach.

Having arrived at the Sovereign’s Entrance at the Palace of Westminster, The King and Queen put on the Robes of State in the Royal Robing Room.

The King wore the Imperial State Crown, which His Majesty previously wore at his Coronation in May. The Queen wore the George IV State Diadem, often worn by Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

In the Chamber, The King read the speech, written by the Government, which sets out upcoming legislation and planned state visits.
