In "Maestro," starring, co-written, and directed by Bradley Cooper, Vogue's November cover star Carey Mulligan plays composer Leonard Bernstein’s wife, Felicia Montealegre. "I know people will talk about “Maestro” as a biopic, but it’s not—it’s a movie about a marriage. A very complicated marriage,” Carey Mulligan says. Playing Felicia Montealegre, wife of legendary conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein—depicted by the film’s co-writer-director, Bradley Cooper—Mulligan’s latest character is not, cannot ever be, the star of the show. “Their connection was profound,” Mulligan says.

At the link in our bio, for Vogue’s November issue, Carey Mulligan—captured by @jackdavisonphoto and styled by @tonnegood—opens up to @mayathesinger about going “all in” with Bradley Cooper, her director and co-star, for their story about “a very complicated marriage”—and talks about her own “very normal” family life with musician Marcus Mumford.

The interviews, videos, and photography in this story predated the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Above: An exclusive look at Mulligan as Felicia Montealegre with Bradley Cooper (as Leonard Bernstein) in the film. Maestro opens in theaters in November, before appearing on Netflix.
