Kitagawa Utamaro is famous for his ukiyo-e paintings of beautiful women. His work “The Lady Tomimoto Toyohina Reading a Letter” depicts an Edo period geisha reading a surimono.
Another piece that caught my eye was Goyo Hashiguchi's work called ”Naga juban o kitaru onna“. A woman's bare skin can be seen as she fixes her kimono while holding the kimono string in her mouth. Hashiguchi was known as the “Utamaro in the Taisho period ” as they shared the common feature of painting beautiful women.
Mysterious and sexy works attract my attention. In other works, the kimonos with cherry blossom patterns at night were very beautiful. I felt like walking around the streets of Asakusa and Kyoto wearing a kimono and enjoying fresh flowers for the first time in a while.

浮世絵の美人画で有名な喜多川歌麿。
彼の「冨本豊ひな」と言う作品は、摺物を読む江戸時代の芸者を描いている。
もう一つ目に留まった作品が橋口五葉の「長襦袢」と言う作品。着物の紐を口にくわえながら、着物を直している女性の白い素肌が少し見える。橋口は「大正の歌麿」と呼ばれていたほど、美人画という共通点があった。
ミステリアスで色っぽい作品は、私の心を惹きつける。と同時に、他の作品では夜桜模様の着物がとても美しかった。着物を着て浅草や京都の街並みを歩き、久しぶりに生花を嗜みたい気持ちに駆られた。
