Two exhibitions of works by the internationally acclaimed artist and writer open at Gagosian in New York this week. A major solo exhibition of works by de Waal, titled "this must be the place," opens at the gallery at 541 West 24th Street on Wednesday, September 13. This show is complemented by the presentation of "to light, and then return—" opening on Thursday, September 14, at the gallery at 976 Madison Avenue. This exhibition features sculptures by de Waal and platinum prints and tintypes by Sally Mann (@sallymannofficial), that each artist created in response to the other’s work.
