Annually, U.S. grocery stores alone sell more than 900 million pounds of them, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.⁠ ⁠ Perhaps no food is more manifestly American than the hot dog, a vehicle for endless interpretation. And chefs around the country are going large with the garnishes.⁠ ⁠ The Chaat Dog, pictured here, is inspired by the Chicago-style dog, but swaps the classic “dragged through the garden” toppings with the South Asian snack chaat.
