My backyard garden is somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. I’ve created a large garden of greens and veggies, planted fruit trees, and even begun hosting bees on my property. (more on that soon!) I can’t grow everything, but my garden supplements trips to the grocery store or farmer’s market. In addition to providing food, my garden gives me a sense of power and fulfillment. Henry David Thoreau wrote in Walden that firewood you’ve chopped yourself warms you twice.
