Photos by @edkashi | As spring turns to summer, for many it means spending time on a beach, enjoying the cool breezes and the sea. I've spent many hours of many days trying to make images on beaches around the world. Beach life in my mind is more than just having fun. It could be documenting a dramatic baptism on the beaches of Durban, South Africa, or trying to capture an epic scene of "ship-breakers"—those who do the dangerous work of dismantling rusting hulls—in Pakistan, or the experience of trying to photograph a multicultural scene on the beaches of Marseille. This compilation represents the wide spectrum of life spent by the water.

1. Beirut is a city with a passion for horses and gambling. Here, a riding teacher has a workout on his Arabian mount in 1996.
