瑞牆山のカンマンボロンの右の方に、大ハングと呼ばれるルーフがある。以前から存在は知っていたものの、登る対象としては見たことがなかった。しかし先日の瑞牆山の撮影でちらっとルーフを見上げると、ポツポツとルーフ部分にポケットが見えた。花崗岩ルーフなんて、クラックでもない限り登れることはほとんど無いのだけど、何か可能性があると感じさせてくれた。

昨日ついに偵察に行ってきた。Hippinest you 5.12cを太陽のテラスまで登り、そこからトラバースしてルーフの上部に出た。大木を支点にし、懸垂を試みる。

30メートルほど降りると、ルーフの淵に辿り着いた。ドキドキしながらさらに降りると、想像の2倍の大きさはある美しいルーフが見えた。僕はとんでもなく興奮した。コルネを思わせる筋と点々としたポケットは登攀意欲を刺激する。しかし、残念ながらブランクセクションがあり、登攀は不可能と推測した。
僕は酷く落胆した。これまで見てきたどんな壁よりも、何か特別な美しさを持っていたから。

僕の落胆は数時間続いていた。しかし時間が経つと共に、新たな可能性に興味が沸き始めた。ルーフ左下から、竜の如く伸びる岩壁だ。一箇所酷く濡れているし、懸垂するだけでは壁に近づけず、登攀可能かどうかの判断ができない。しかし、壁が乾く秋頃に、的確な準備をして再調査する価値があると感じさせてくれた。また何か新しいドラマが始まるかも知れない。

To the right of the Kanmamboron on Mt. Mizugaki, there is a huge roof.I had known of its existence for some time, but had never seen it as an object to climb. However, when I glanced up at the roof during a recent photo shoot, granite roofs are rarely climbable unless they are cracked, but it made me feel that there was some potential.

Yesterday I finally went checking, climbing Hippinest you 5.12c to “terrace of the sun” and traversing from there to the top of the roof. Using a large tree as a fulcrum, I attempted a rappel.

After 30 meters of descent, I reached the edge of the roof. I descended further, and saw a beautiful roof that was twice as big as I had imagined. I was incredibly excited. The cornet-like striations and dotted pockets were very motivating. Unfortunately, there was many blank sections, which I guessed was unclimbable.
I was severely disappointed. It had something more special and beautiful than any other wall I had ever seen.

As time passed, however, I began to be intrigued by new possibilities. The rock wall extending like a dragon from the lower left side of the roof. One part of the wall was very wet and I could not approach it by rappelling, so I could not judge whether it was climbable or not. However, it made us feel that it was worth a second look in the fall, when the wall would be dry and we would be properly prepared. It might be the start of some new drama.
