小豆島の礫岩がこれまで開拓されてこなかった大きな理由の一つは、その脆さだろう。しかし脆いからこそ、自然侵食によって傾斜した岩壁があちこちに存在する。脆い層を避け、しっかりと掃除をすれば、岩は安定してくる場所が多い。しかしボルトをいかに安定させていくかが大きな課題となっている。

前回のツアーでは、JFAのリボルト職人である @mameo_512 に実際に岩場に来て頂き、 @大場美和 と一緒にボルト打ちの様々な技術や知恵を伝授していただいた。グージョン、ガラス管ケミカル、エポキシ系ケミカルを岩を見ながらうまく使い分けていくことで、ボルトの不具合を最小限に抑えることができそうだ。とても貴重な機会を頂き、新田さんには改めて感謝の気持ちを伝えたい。

One of the main reasons why the conglomerate rocks of Shodoshima have not been developed is their fragility. This time, Mr. Nitta, a JFA(Japan free climbing association)rebolting craftsman, actually came to the rock to teach us the various basics of bolting. It seems that by using gougeon bolts, glass tube chemicals, and epoxy-based chemicals properly while watching the rock, we can minimize bolting failures. I would like to thank Mr. Nitta again for this very valuable opportunity.
