I watched the movie "Dr Bala".
Cambodia was ruled by Pol Pot from 1975 to 1979. Many intellectuals, including doctors, were persecuted. Some civilians were slaughtered because they were judged to be intellectuals just because they wore glasses. The number of victims is about 1.7 million. Cambodia's medical system collapsed in this genocide.
Kazuhiro Omura, a doctor, went to Cambodia to teach techniques to Cambodian doctors. There, he met a parent and child who traveled dozens of hours one way to the hospital, and a girl who suffered burns and had her face, shoulders, and body stuck together, and her face stretched out. He has witnessed the lack of medical care.

This film chronicles 12 years of events involving Mr. Omura and international cooperation.
He opened his heart to everyone, and his unwavering desire to “save people” touched my heart.

映画『Dr Bala 』を鑑賞。カンボジアは、1975年から1979年に渡り、ポルポト政権が行われていた。政治家、医者、教師、役者、歌手などの数多くの知識人達が迫害された。眼鏡を掛けているだけで、知識人と判断され、虐殺された民間人もいた。犠牲者の数は、約170万人。この大量虐殺から、カンボジアの医療が崩壊。
医師の大村和弘さんは、カンボジアの医師に技術を手渡すべく、現地へ飛び立つ。そこで出会ったのは、片道数十時間も掛けて病院へ来る親子や火傷を負い、顔、肩、腕がくっつき、顔が伸びてしまった少女。大村医師は、医療が届いていない状況を目の当たりにする。

この映画は、大村さんと国際協力の出来事が詰まった12年間が記録されています。
誰に対しても心を開き、揺るぎなく突き抜けた“人を救いたい”という彼の心に胸が熱くなりました。
