デレク・ブラスバーグのインスタグラム(derekblasberg) - 5月1日 06時47分

The irony of this year‘s #metgala theme is that its subject, Karl Lagerfeld, had a notorious disdain for nostalgia. “There is nothing worse than bringing up the 'good old days,” he once said. “To me, that's the ultimate acknowledgment of failure.” (The guy loved a one-liner. My other favorite Karl quotes: “If you are cheap, nothing helps,” and, “Trendy is the last stage before tacky.”) Even though Karl didn’t like to look back, seeing so much of him and his work dominate the cultural conversation again has been wonderful. The first time I went to his studio was in 2007, when Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen invited him to be a subject of their book, “Influence,” which I worked on. He sat behind a desk bursting with books, sketches, iPod, markers, Diet Cokes and tear sheets while the Chanel studio swirled around him. In the years that followed, I worked with him on shoots and stories and trips around the world, from LA to Venice, from Edinburgh to Dallas. (I took the third pic at a Texan party with a mechanical bull.) Each experience with him was a pinch me moment because we all knew we were in the presence of greatness. He never complained, he never explained, he never slowed down. He could do ten jobs at once and still end every conversation with a devastating quip. He gave me a nickname, Beau Derek (get it?), that validated my whole existence every time he called me by it. What I miss most about Karl is his cheeky sense of humor, and how he’d make clever, devilish comments just to test if people could keep up with his wit. The fashion world has felt a little less fabulous without him, so I’m looking forward to all our feeds being dominated by King Karl again.
