He was the very last manager I worked for. He was also one of the original LA Roadsters, and raced a front engine Top Fuel dragster in the 50’s & 60’s. Legend! That shop was an amazing place with an amazing crew, and he was at the helm. We had so many good times, he would make me laugh every day. With the daily humor He still ran a tight ship, and didn’t put up with any BS, especially from @chipfooseofficial . His wife Melba (who’s an Angel and the real boss) ran the office with Boyd’s wife Diane. They controlled the money and Dick controlled the builds. I learned so much from Dick, then and especially now. How to run a shop and how to always get the best out of everyone and how to keep everything moving forward. It’s funny I can still hear his voice. One day I was in the back of the shop welding something and Dick walked up and said “OOOhhhh you’re a Tig Welder” The tone of his voice was half kidding and half he was going to use me to weld stuff. Dick had a full fender ‘32 roadster with 15” Boyd-Halibrands. I would always tell him: “When you going to take the fenders off that old man car and make it a real hot rod?” Now all I want is a Brogdon/LA Roadster/Boyd style ‘32. Funny how styles and tastes change and adapt over time… Dick and I remained close over the last 30 years. Talking often about life and new projects. I even got my little Burgundy OBS Boyd truck from him. Maybe I should get in back from @iannottibros … My heart goes out to Melba and his son Rod and the rest of the Brogdon family.
