I didn’t have that luxury either. As someone who moved out of the home when I was still in my teens, who learned the definition of responsibility and working out of necessity to pay bills far younger than I should have, I have often wondered what life would have looked like had I stayed in school, chosen a more normal route and been able to enjoy life as a kid for longer. But then I remember that the colorful road my spirit chose is what led to much of my curiosity, determination and independence. It plays one of the most important roles in my resilience and my ability to carve a path where there isn’t one.
