I’ve been harsh with her getting sidetracked in social influencer land. Punitive about the commodification part. But as I remarked to Calvin the other day, there’s so much we wouldn’t have right now if it wasn’t for her. We would probably still be living in our 600 sq. foot apartment and working our day jobs. We would not have this house or the opportunity to take care of my grandson every day. I need to give her a break. My Instagram grid is a visual chronology of Accidental Icon from the first post in 2014 to the one I post today 2023. I can plot the pivot points and see where I went off the road. As I review the grid, I am reminded of the resourcefulness in doing more with less and the creativity Accidental showed throughout much of her journey. I remember how much fun it was. The year or two she lost her way is just a blip on the screen. With much gratitude she is headed in a new direction, telling a different story. In a different place and a different time. The part of me that is Accidental Icon is not over. She’s just reinventing again. Exactly the way she did in 2014. This time it’s Calvin and I together and I’m behind the camera. My epiphany freed me to be excited about this new modeling thing. We are back to weekend shoots. Another reinvention, a familiar conversation.
