I’ve always wanted to swim next to ice bergs, it seems like a basic but compelling life-tick. It’s crazy to think that this wall at 1300m continued for another 1000 metres below the surface of the fjord a bit like an iceberg itself. Many walls become characters in your mind, you personify them somehow. This wall seemed like a nightmarish monster most of the time and yet because of that, wildly satisfying to climb. I wouldn’t say I always felt comfortable on the wall, but I managed the experience, and given the nature of the wall that felt like a huge achievement. Building confidence is all about getting the challenge level right. Walls like this are almost entirely a psychological challenge. A lot of climbers in the world have the physical strength to climb a wall like this but few have the mental strength and experience.
