疫病そのものとして扱われる一方で、疫病退散を求め祈り祀られる強者としても扱われるOniを、ナカヤマン。はコロナパンデミックの文脈と重ね、矛盾すら内包するまでに著しく歪曲された不屈の存在、「一貫した敗者」「究極の他者」として考察する。

Central to the work is the figure of Oni, a being from Japanese folklore associated with calamity and plague.

As both the bringer of woe, and the one who is prayed to in the hope of deliverance from it, YAMAN considers Oni in the context of the COVID19 pandemic as a contradictory figure, utterly shrouded in distortion, and yet persistently ‘a consistent loser, the ultimate other’.
