Today has been hard for the Asian American community. It's incomprehensible what happened in Atlanta, and the grief among the AAPI community is boiling. The other day, I was alone with Yuri Shimojo's 'Vine' while listening to Ryuichi Sakamoto's sublime track 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence'. The experience was both so beautiful and full of sorrow. It healed me in that moment, so I wanted to share it with all of you.

Just remember, discrimination against Asian Americans is literally the oldest law of its kind in the land. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was the first (and only) law to ban all members of a specific ethnic or national group from immigrating to the US. It wasn't repealed until 1943.

What can we do? We can spread kindness. We can learn about this long history of discrimination that history books almost never teach. We can follow these resources: @stopaapihate @aapiwomenlead. Also, @iamwomankind is a non-profit to have on your radar. They work with survivors of gender-based violence in the Asian American communities.
