With its iridescent plumage, the Golden-headed Quetzal (Pharomachrus auriceps) is a spectacular sight! But its colors aren’t just for show. The Quetzal’s green feathers help camouflage it in its forest habitat near the Andes mountains. This vibrant bird seeks out tree hollows, or uses its beak to cut them out in rotting tree trunks, to make its nest. With a diet rich in fruits and berries, it helps to disperse seeds around its home.
