Episode 4 Flat Mountain

長きに渡り国内最難と言われてきたFlat Mountain 5.14d/15a /9a/9a+。@平山ユージ が20日のトライの末に登ったルートだ。おそらく僕がまだ中学生の頃のロクスノの表紙を飾り、そこに彼が綴った文章があるのだが時間のある方はぜひ読んで欲しい。そこには世界で様々なクライミングの価値観を体験してきた平山さんが、再びFlat Mountainに戻り、最善の選択をする物語が赤裸々に綴られていて、中学生の僕の心にも響くものがあった。決して美しいとは言えないその壁が、当時のクライミングの価値観の変遷を物語っている。その全てが詰まっているFlat Mountain が、僕には特別に思える。
いつも思うことだが、ルートというのはその瞬間の開拓者を写真で残したようなものだ。様々な考え方がそこには残されていて、いつも不完全である。そこが、味なんだよなぁ。

178センチある僕のリーチでもギリギリの核心ムーブは多くのクライマーの壁となり、僕が知る限り再登者は @中島徹 と @アレックス・メゴス しかいないのではないだろうか？僕も数年間、度々トライし続け2016年3月に第3登することができた。

Flat Mountain 5.14d/15a /9a/9a+ that has been touted as the hardest route in Japan for long time. @平山ユージ climbed FA after about 20 days of work. This ascent made the cover of Rock&Snow Magazine when I was in junior high school. He wrote an article about the story of developing the route and was so heartwarming. It is the story of his developing journey and it touched a little boy’s heart.
The route in not beautiful(if you read the article, you will understand) but it is telling transition of climbing values. That is why this route is special to me.

I always think that route is a photograph which took the developer at that moment. Their thoughts are there and it is incomplete. I love it!

The crux move is very far move and it is on my limit(I have 178cm with my arms). I know only @中島徹 and @アレックス・メゴス repeated it. After many tries, I got third ascent in 2016 in March.
