A celestial conjunction pairs the crescent moon and Jupiter above the rugged profile of California's Mount Whitney in the Sierra Nevada in this time-lapse video by @babaktafreshi. Reaching an altitude of 14,505 feet (4,421 meters) it is the highest summit in the contiguous U.S. Note the Galilean moons of Jupiter are visible even with a telephoto lens. The dark side of the moon is gently lit by the Earth. That’s why it’s called earthshine (or the Da Vinci glow).
