Look closely...can you tell what's real and what's painted? 👀

Amir Mousavi's "Lost in Wonderland" series records street art in Tehran: murals painted on buildings and sponsored by the municipality in an attempt to enliven and revitalize certain neighborhoods. First trained as a painter and eventually gravitating towards photography, Mousavi was especially captivated by the flat surfaces of these walls.

The scenes are meticulously constructed; notice how the white painted bird appears to be sitting on the real tree branch in the foreground. These images play with light and shadow to blur the lines between the flat surfaces of the murals and the everyday life of the city and its inhabitants.
