Helen Frankenthaler was born on this day, December 12, in New York.

Tate Modern is currently exhibiting five paintings by Helen Frankenthaler generously loaned by the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation. Ranging in date from 1951 to 1977, the display includes “Vessel” (1961), a work recently gifted to the Tate by the Foundation.
