This tiny gold chariot stands at just 7.5cm tall – it was made between the 5th and 4th centuries BC and was found near the Oxus River in modern-day Tajikistan 🐎✨
Our Scientific Research team used different imaging to find out how it was made by Achaemenid goldsmiths thousands of years ago. Swipe to see what they saw 🔬
X-Rays confirmed that the figures and horses are hollow. The chariot was constructed from small pieces of hand-worked gold sheets and solid wires attached together. This used much less gold than a solid casting, and required great skill to create the delicate forms.
🔎 Gold chariot, from the Oxus treasure, Achaemenid Persian, found in Takht-i-Kuwad, modern Tajikistan and dated 5th–4th centuries BC.
