In May, the school board in charge of the 56-student facility decided to allow them to reinstate in-person instruction because Willow Creek is a small, rural community which had no reported cases of Covid-19 in the area. One of the first schools in the country to reopen, it gave students the opportunity to finish out the final 16 days left in the school year. Numerous safety protocols, temperature checks, social distancing measures, and masks on faculty and staff were in place. The educators were as much focused on students' emotional well-being as academic progress. No cases arose in the community as a result of the reopening.
