It represents the culmination of the artist’s reflection on the American wilderness—a legendary archetype of grandiose, untouched nature. 🌄 A circular view shows us a landscape that is both delicate and powerful—a clearing near a small lake, a setting sun that brings out the bright colors of the forest in early autumn, a distant view of the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York… 🇺🇸 A major work by Cole, founder of the Hudson River School, this painting was a source of inspiration for a whole generation of painters. Ce tableau marque l’aboutissement de la réflexion du peintre initiée en 1825 autour de la représentation d’un certain type de paysage américain, la « Wilderness », archétype mythique d’une nature grandiose et intacte. 🌄 Une vue circulaire nous présente un paysage à la fois délicat et puissant : une clairière près d’un petit lac, un soleil couchant qui avive encore les éclatantes couleurs de la forêt au début de l’automne, une perspective lointaine sur les montagnes des Catskill, au nord de New York… 🇺🇸 Œuvre majeure de Cole, fondateur de l’école américaine du paysage, ce tableau fut une source d’inspiration pour toute une génération de peintres.
