Hosting a workshop in Bali last week, I went out with some of the photographers to document the cremation of I. Gusti Ayu Ngrh Reni, a member of Bali's royalty. Having lived on the Island of the Gods between 2003-2008, I'd been to many cremations, however this one was intimate and like so many others, beautifully detailed. On one of the large bantens (offerings) was festooned the head of a pig. Cooked and the rest eaten (nothing goes to waste in Bali), it was elaborately ornamented with flowers and religious symbolism to depict a barong, a lion-like creature and character in Balinese mythology. @ナショナルジオグラフィック @ジョン・スタンメイヤー #Bali #Indonesia www.stanmeyerworkshops.com
