For her first ever male fragrance, Schiaparelli found inspiration in Magritte's 1929 work Trahison des Images (The Treachery of Images). Better known as Ceci n'est pas une pipe (This is Not a Pipe), the painting is the perfect metaphor for deceiving imagery, a reminder of how things are not always what they seem, especially at first glance.   The visual identity of Snuff Pipe was entrusted by Schiaparelli to the artist Fernand Guéry Colas, who created its fascinating packaging in the shape of a cigar box. This play on the real pipe and its bold scented smoke was replicated in the perfume’s advertising, watercolour works by Marcel Vèrtes, who was also the talent behind most of the Maison’s iconic advertisements. The marketing approach to Snuff Pipe contributed greatly to its success, solidifying its status at the go to perfume and must have accessory for the elegant and refined man.
