Photo by @ジョン・スタンメイヤー National Geographic explorer and writer Paul Salopek arrived in Banaras (Varanasi) after months of walking through northern India— and decided to understand this city by taking a boat on its sacred Ganges River. At this point in the @outofedenwalk, Paul had journeyed by foot, beginning in 2013 from Herto Buri, Ethiopia, for more than 10,460 kilometers (6,500 miles) and over 2,200 days. The image is from my latest story in @ナショナルジオグラフィック magazine, "Water Everywhere, and Nowhere," in the August issue.
