Masks work. Sure, a non-surgical mask will most likely not prevent you from a virus in an enclosed space if someone is sneezing all over you, but They help people keep distance, and keep them from touching their faces, and chances of two people infecting each other with masks on are MUCH SMALLER THAN WITHOUT. WEAR A DAMN MASK. PLEASE.
I’ve kept quiet all this time,
Because usually I’m not one to tell other people what to do.
I’ve watched dear friends over the last four months, struggling hard and long with Covid-19. Young healthy people.
Then I lost two friends, in a span of a weekend.
Yesterday, we lost my grandmother’s husband of 30 years, to Covid.
I’ve spent the last two weeks listening to my grandmother whaling away from the pain of being separated from her husband, while he was alone in a hospital. Begging me to bring him home. I’ve listened to his pleas to be brought home so he wouldn’t have to die alone. He did. He suffered and died alone,
Without his loved ones by his side.
I can’t risk going to Florida to be with my grandmother when she’s in so much pain, because Florida is a hot zone right now, and I’m home taking care of parents who are in a high risk category. My grandmother will have to grieve alone.
If you still think this is a joke, or it doesn’t matter if you get sick because you’re healthy and young,
Or if wearing a mask doesn’t work or is an inconvenience or some infringement on your civil rights, then please pause and ask yourself what it is exactly that you’re fighting.
