Photo by Pete McBride @pedromcbride The aerial perspective shows us where we've been—and what tracks we've left. As the third oldest active open-pit copper mine in the world, the Santa Rita mine (or Chino Mine) in New Mexico, produced six million pounds of copper annually two centuries ago. Its conversion to an open pit forced the town of Santa Rita to move as the mine grew in the early 1900s, and today Santa Rita is a ghost town. The mine has felt the effects of our current economic state, as copper and other metal prices have slumped. Amazing to see history playing out over these colorful landscapes—swipe for the full view.
