Today's scale is harmonic minor.

From the perspective of music history, this harmonic minor scale was invented before melodic minor.

In natural minor scale, they don't have leading tone because 7th note goes flat, that's why harmonic minor has invented.

Once you make 7th note natural,
G, B, D and F make dominant 7th chords ( B and F make tritone) and they make it possible to resolve to C minor.

That's the history of Harmonic minor, but as you listen to it,
when you use this scale for melody, it sounds bit weird because the interval of 6th and 7th are too wide.

To resolve this problem, melodic minor had invented.

But once you control this scale, you can make lines as like some classical chops as like Bach's music.
