Read her words below 🌎✨🌊 . “WELCOME! 👋🏽 To the 20,000 of you who have joined me here in the last week (#BlackLivesMatter, amirite?), I thought I would introduce myself: I’m a marine biologist, policy nerd 🤓, writer, and Brooklyn native. I recently co-founded @UrbanOceanLab 🏙, a think tank for the future of coastal cities, and am founder/CEO of @oceancollectiv, a consulting firm for conservation solutions grounded in social justice. Recently, I co-created the #BlueNewDeal 💙, a roadmap for including the ocean in climate policy — were really gonna blow it if we leave out the ocean! Once upon a time I was executive director of the @waittinstitute working in #Barbuda, #Montserrat, and Curaçao. 🌴 I’ve also developed policy at the EPA and NOAA, served as a leader of the March for Science, and taught as an adjunct professor at New York University. My marine biology PhD is from @scripps_ocean, where I did a dissertation on how to sustainably manage coral reefs 🐡 — and included economics and sociology in addition to ecology and policy, becuase that’s the crazy puzzle conservation requires. Now, I’m co-editing an anthology 📖 of wisdom from women climate leaders with @drkwilkinson called @AllWeCanSave — publication date Sept. 22! — and writing a book on climate futurism. I am also a devoted daughter to a homestead chicken farmer mother upstate New York — stay tuned for 👩🏽‍🌾 farm pics! My mission is to build community around solutions to our climate crisis.
