In the midst of a global pandemic, racism, our nation's true disease, has claimed yet another innocent life, and we must refuse to return to the status quo. We have heard the cries of injustice from the black community for years, and yet nothing has changed. How can a wound heal when it is continually ripped open? How many black deaths do we need to see with our own eyes before we get angry enough to take action? How many innocent lives must we watch be reduced to hashtags before we realize we are drowning in them? Fannie Lou Hamer said, "Nobody's free until everybody's free." Benjamin Franklin said, "Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are." We are not free. The rights promised to us in our Constitution and our legislation are not protecting all of our citizens. And that is injustice. It is long time for all of us who are not directly affected to be outraged. It is long time for those who do not have to fear death at the hands of those who are supposed to protect and serve to demand change. To take action. To DO something. Our hearts are with #GeorgeFloyd, #AhmaudArbery, and so many other innocent black men and women who have perished at the hands of nation who is not protecting them. Our hearts are with their families, friends, loved ones, and the black community as a whole, who has been forced to watch far too many of their brothers and sisters die.
