今日の和菓子：杜若

唐衣 きつつなれにし 妻しあれば はるばる来ぬる 旅をしぞ思ふ

訳）着慣れた唐衣のように親しんだ妻を都に置いてきたので、この美しい花を見るとそれが思い出され、はるばる来た旅路の遠さをしみじみと感じる

晩春の花の代表といえば杜若。京都にも杜若で有名な太田神社があるけれど、今年の拝観は残念ながら中止とのこと...。我慢の日々が続くけれど、せめて和菓子を通して、咲きほこる花々を想像しながら楽しんでいただけたらと。
早く心置きなく美しい自然を堪能できる日がきますように。

2枚目の写真は家の近くの神社にて。こじんまりとさりげなく咲いていた花に、少しばかり癒しをもらいました。

Today’s Wagashi : Iris (kakitsubata)

My Chinese robe (karakoromo), Long worn in comfort,
So like the wife I have.
Having come so far along
I ponder this journey.

This is a famous poem composed by Ariwara no Narihira during his trip to Mikawa. He had used the five syllables of the word for water iris, “ka-ki-tsu-ba-ta,” at the beginning of each verse of the poem above.
It is pity that we cannot go to see this beautiful flower blooming perfectly during this season. Hope you enjoy flower viewing through this Japanese confectionary representing iris flower.
