Despite differences in their ancestral roots -- Japan and Iran, respectively -- the two have found common ground in universal spiritualism. Following an in-person studio visit in early March, where the two women began a lively conversation, this online studio visit is a deeper probe into areas such as Tantric, Shaker, and Islamic art history, grief, love, and managing a sense of identity as a global citizen. ・ Yuri Shimojo (Born Tokyo, 1966) has always used painting to express the interconnected emotions of joy and pain. With minimal formal training in fine art, her style is grounded in the practice of Japanese traditional theater, years spent with indigenous cultures around the world, leading to the study of universal shamanism.
