Although I didn’t grow up with my father’s side of the family, they embraced me once I reached out to them as an adult. I only got to meet Aunt Connie once or twice, but remember her as a beautiful, serene and elegant woman. It pains me to know Covid-19 was the cause that shortened her very full life — she would have turned 99 in June. The living facility where she resided has an outbreak with 50% infected. The cruelest part of this virus is that those closest to you can’t visit, to give you comfort, and the fight is in isolation. Thankfully I understand they made it comfortable for her and she didn’t suffer. My love to cousin Lois and the rest of my Mariano clan.
