Video by @bertiegregory | A spotted eagle ray glides over the edge of a coral reef in the southern Red Sea. These rays have a unique behavior—digging their snouts into the sand in search of crustaceans and mollusks. Once they’ve located prey, they use their specially shaped teeth plates to crush the shells of their prey. The pattern on the dorsal (top) side of the spotted eagle ray is mesmerizing. Most eagle rays are shy and wouldn’t let you track over the top like this. Fortunately, my dive buddy has known this individual since it was a pup and if it’s in the area, it will often come over to check us out. #redsea #diving #underwater #ocean #coralreef
