In other words, they are left to die. Because of their great sense of smell, hunting dogs are able to track their owners and return home. To prevent this, it is said that some owners have done some unthinkable things, like tying their dog to trees or even cutting their legs off to prevent them from returning home. Even those who have worked as hunting dogs alongside their owner for years are often discarded in the mountains when they become old or sick. If they are picked up by an animal shelter they may have a second chance at life, but only a small handful end up lucky enough. Hounds that have been trained to pursue game such as deer or wild boar have very little chance of being re-homed, and hunting dogs are euthanized at a higher rate than any other type of dog. These hunting dogs were brought into this world for the sake of humans. They are very intelligent, loyal, amazing dogs, and we hope that they get to live out the remainder of their lives feeling loved. Now, in the midst of hunting season, shelters across the country are overflowing with hunting dogs. (We acknowledge that, although few in number, there are some wonderful hunters who treat their dogs as partners and continue caring for them until the very end.)」12月7日 7時02分 - lovableraz
