Photo by Robbie Shone @shonephoto | The first cave we worked in during our ongoing Greenland Caves Project expedition is called Crystal Palace. We had managed to climb into it on the 2015 expedition. Accessing it required several hundred meters of ascent up precarious scree slopes like these. For every two steps forward, we took one step back; everything moved underfoot. When we reached the top, the difficulties were not over. We then had to traverse a smaller but highly exposed scree slope to reach a narrow ledge, before accessing the cave. We protected ourselves across the exposed areas by installing a hand line and clipped into it.
