Photo by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz | About 1.2 million Atlantic salmon swim in the pens in Hjorrund Fjord, Norway. They are fed pellets of fish meal, fish oil, and soybeans via pneumatic tubes from the barge (at left). The lights come from underwater video cameras that monitor whether all the food sprayed into the pens is being eaten. To learn more about where our food comes from, follow @FeedThePlanet.

Part of me is sad to see that fish farms are spreading out, since crowded spaces breed parasites, etc. Another part of me reflects on overpopulation, and on how few food sources we have, especially protein.

Shouldn’t they swim up river? Aren’t we disrupting how they survive on earth? What will happen when they forget to live in the wild? Will they go extinct?

Stop promoting pollution @natgeo. These farms are disgusting and they are destroying the wildlife in the oceans!
