??? I did a kind of ‘satellite link-up’ yesterday at the panel discussion hosted by @t_w_i_n_e_d. I’ve been ill with flu so, after abandoning a video link-up (it was too horrific) I made my contributions over the phone attached to a loudspeaker (like the authoritative @tannoy1926 at the village fete) ?
We worked with artist and innovator @thesustainablesequincompany and developed a sequin shape made from recycled polymer that leaves an off-cut that works as veiling (she has also developed a range that is biodegradable) and if we use the off-cuts for veils there is #zerowaste. ♻️ The finished #hat, also made by remote control, is an #upcycled #oldhat which we took apart and reblocked to make the base and then added two swooping flourishes of new ecoveiling on top ??
On the panel with us was historian and writer @tessaboase who contextualised current great shifts in the way we view #fastfashion, citing the #suffragettes and the @rspb_love_nature - organisations that were started by women and have changed history. The suffragettes wanted votes for women - who wanted to remain womanly AND vote - and the #RSPB was set up to combat the horrors of the millinery exotic #feather trade which was busy wiping species off the map. @t_w_i_n_e_d hosted the night with figurehead Aniela who pairs creatives with sustainable manufacturers for a more #sustainable #process and #future. We managed to discuss feminism/femininity, mass-manufacture/bespoke-craft, fashion/clothing and ethics - and pulled them all together in about 45 minutes. We concluded that #looking and learning, #mindfulness and banding #together we can #makeadifference.
